Unite.AI
一个正确的打开框并不能解决顺序问题,但困难的时刻并不能抹去所有在它之前起作用的事物;

When an AI Video Edit Changes More Than You Asked
Add Unite.AI to your preferred sources on Google
Getting the new words right is only part of changing a sign in a video. You also want to keep the shot you chose. Suppose an AI editor replaces the lettering, and the preview looks convincing. Before accepting it, you still need to establish what happened to the rest of the footage.
That review extends beyond spelling. As the sign turns, the words have to stay with its surface, while the scene around it remains as you intended. A good still frame tells you very little about the transition.
Scene-text replacement makes this problem easier to examine: how much of the result are we approving when we ask for one small edit?
Define What the Edit Can Change
Replacing a sign’s lettering and replacing the sign itself are different assignments. The second permits changes that the first doesn’t, even if both deliver the requested words.
For a lettering-only edit, agree on the replacement text and the area where changes are allowed, leaving the surface beyond that area as part of the original shot. A reviewer shouldn’t have to infer the intended boundary from whatever the tool happened to produce.
This also separates a correction from a creative decision. If a redesigned sign looks better, someone may choose to keep it. That’s permission to broaden the assignment, and it needs an explicit decision rather than an assumption that an attractive result must be acceptable.
What Does the Benchmark Measure?
Xinghao Chen and colleagues developed ViTeX-Bench to evaluate video scene-text replacement. Submitted on September 30, 2026 and revised on October 11, the paper describes 387 source videos: 230 for training and 157 for evaluation.
The protocol separates text correctness, visual and temporal quality, and edit locality. Locality means preservation outside the editable region. The authors don’t combine these axes into a weighted total.
For a production reviewer, those distinctions prevent a vague verdict such as “the edit looks good” from doing too much work. Correct spelling answers one question; whether the lettering belongs in the moving shot answers another. Neither observation establishes what happened elsewhere in the frame.
This is a bounded scene-text benchmark, not a test of every commercial editing feature. It supplies useful distinctions, but no universal production pass mark.
A Smooth Result Can Still Be Wrong
ViTeX-Bench’s Flicker measure compares neighboring frames. Its Warp measure makes a comparison that compensates for motion in the source. The authors caution that smoothing or nearly constant output can lower both measures, so lower temporal error needs to be read alongside correctness and visual quality.
Consider what a low frame-to-frame difference can actually establish. If an output barely changes, there may be little difference to measure, even though the requested lettering is wrong or the shot no longer behaves as intended. Less change isn’t automatically better video.
The sign example makes the practical consequence clear. We want the lettering to change its appearance as the surface turns; we don’t want it to change into different letters. A steady-looking result still needs reading, and a correct-looking frame still needs playback.
I wouldn’t accept a strong temporal score as compensation for the wrong words. Nor would I use better lettering to excuse an unauthorized change elsewhere. These are requirements of the assignment, so averaging them together could hide the particular failure that prevents delivery.
Follow the Lettering Through the Turn
Unite.AI’s 2022 reporting on earlier work on consistent video edits explored localized changes carried through a sequence. Scene-text replacement puts a specific demand on that continuity: the words must remain readable when the view permits it, without losing their place on the surface.
Play the original and edited clips at matching moments. Begin with the sign facing the camera, follow its turn, and continue beyond the point that first attracted your attention. A pause helps you inspect a letter; playback establishes how it got there.
If the text looks wrong during movement, first identify what you’re seeing. Is the requested wording absent, or does the correct lettering change appearance in a way that doesn’t follow the sign? Those observations call for different correction notes.
A correct opening frame doesn’t settle the sequence, but a difficult moment doesn’t erase everything that worked before it; locate the passage that needs investigation instead of asking the editor to redo the entire clip.
When Neither Version Is Clear
The source places a limit on a fair comparison. If its sign is unreadable during the turn, the reviewer can’t use that moment to establish how clearly the replacement ought to read.
Compare the same passage in both versions. An earlier front-facing frame may show the words clearly, but it doesn’t represent the viewing conditions at the point you’re assessing.
Where the footage won’t support a judgment, record uncertainty. Don’t call it a confirmed defect, and don’t treat a later clear frame as proof that the obscured interval was correct.
Whether that uncertainty prevents approval depends on what must be established for the shot. An unreadable passage in both versions isn’t, by itself, evidence that the edit failed. If it leaves a necessary requirement unresolved, that question belongs with the person making the delivery decision.
Compare the Scene Around the Words
The ViTeX-Bench team’s published source-and-output comparisons provide study examples alongside data and evaluation code. They let readers inspect the research, but they are the authors’ own materials and don’t independently establish commercial performance on a reader’s footage.
For your own comparison, shift attention away from the replacement once you’ve checked it. Inspect the rest of the sign and the surrounding scene against the source. These areas have a different reference: you’re checking for preservation, rather than judging how convincingly new words were rendered.
Follow any visible difference through enough of the sequence to establish its extent. Keep the matching source passage with it. A single still may identify where you noticed something, while the surrounding movement gives the editor the context needed to reproduce the comparison and establish whether the difference persists.
The result of this pass should be a specific observation about the footage. Whether to permit that difference is a separate decision, particularly when it falls outside the agreed editing area.
Keep the Instructions With the Export
Reviewing AI-generated footage before publishing also mattered in Unite.AI’s Synthesia review, where the author found output that needed correction before sharing. That avatar workflow is adjacent context, not a scene-text test.
Keep the source, requested wording and permitted area beside the edited version. When organizing the work, attach the review notes to that export and identify who can approve it. A reviewer joining at this stage needs the original instructions as well as the result.
This is a practical review routine, not a procedure validated by ViTeX-Bench. Its purpose is to make the evidence and the decision available together.
Write a Correction Someone Can Make
A useful return note tells the editor what to inspect and what would satisfy the request. If the wording is wrong, give the intended replacement and identify the passage. If the wording is correct but its appearance changes during the turn, describe that behavior instead of submitting a spelling correction.
For an unwanted change outside the editable area, include the matching source sequence so the editor can reproduce your comparison at the same moment in the shot. You don’t need to diagnose the model or claim to know which processing step caused the difference.
Keep any unassessed interval distinct from these confirmed problems. A note that asks for closer inspection shouldn’t read as though a defect has already been demonstrated.
These distinctions also preserve useful progress. The editor can understand which parts satisfied the request and which need attention, without a promise that the tool can repair one part in isolation. The revised output will still need review as a whole.
Approve the Version You’ll Publish
Give a corrected export a fresh viewing beside the source before concentrating on the earlier notes. The repair matters, but the previous review applies to an older file. Approval has to cover the version you’re about to use.
When a difference remains, establish whether the disagreement concerns evidence or permission. Two reviewers who disagree about what changed need to return to the comparison. If both see the change but only one wants to keep it, further playback alone won’t resolve their disagreement.
The person responsible for delivery must then authorize the broader change or ask for a correction, recording the choice against the export so it won’t be mistaken for something overlooked.
Return the edit or keep the source when an unexplained change or incomplete check leaves a necessary requirement unmet. The replacement words can be exactly right and still belong in a version that isn’t ready to publish.
