#!/bin/bash
# 只读检查:Postman 有没有给本机的 AI 编程工具装插件(macOS)
LOG="$HOME/Library/Application Support/Postman/logs/main.log"
echo "== 1.
if [ -f "$LOG" ]; then
grep -h "autoInstall.plugin\|PostmanAgentPluginService~install" "$LOG" | cut -c1-200
else
echo "没找到 $LOG"
fi
echo "== 2. Claude Code"
command -v claude >/dev/null && claude plugin list 2>/dev/null | grep -A3 "postman@" || echo "未发现"
echo "== 3. Codex"
grep -n 'postman' "$HOME/.codex/config.toml" 2>/dev/null || echo "config.toml 里没有 postman"
grep -n 'hooks.state."postman' "$HOME/.codex/config.toml" 2>/dev/null && echo "注意:Postman 的 hook 已被标记为可信"
echo "== 4. Cursor"
ls -d "$HOME/.cursor/plugins/local/postman" 2>/dev/null || echo "未发现"
echo "== 5. Postman CLI"
ls -l "$HOME/.local/bin/postman" 2>/dev/null || echo "未发现"
== 1. Postman

date -r 1793237436 '+%F %T'
claude plugin details postman@claude-plugins-official
Postman (postman) 2.0.1
Source: postman@claude-plugins-official
Component inventory
Skills (17) ai-readiness, api-discovery, api-documentation, api-engineer, ...
Hooks (1) SessionStart (harness-only — no model context cost)
MCP servers (1) postman (tool schemas resolved at runtime; not counted)
Projected token cost
Always-on: ~1,897 tok added to every session
You have the Postman plugin.
Before responding to any non-trivial API engineering task — designing, implementing,
mocking, testing, monitoring, documenting, or deploying an API or Postman Flow —
load the `postman:api-engineer` skill and follow it.
{
"mcpServers": {
"postman": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.postman.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"X-Source": "postman-claude-code-plugin",
"X-Plugin-Version": "2.0.1",
"User-Agent": "postman-claude-code-plugin/2.0.1"
}
}
}
}
~/.codex/config.toml 里多了一个插件市场和一个启用的插件:
[marketplaces.postman]
source_type = "git"
source = "https://github.com/postmanlabs/postman-plugin.git"
[plugins."postman@postman"]
enabled = true
ls ~/.cursor/plugins/local/postman/hooks
# 输出:codex-hooks.json copilot-hooks.json hooks.json session-start session-start-context.md session-start.cmd
~/.local/bin/postman --version
卸之前建议先把 ~/.codex/config.toml 备份一份。
Claude Code
claude plugin disable postman@claude-plugins-official
claude plugin uninstall postman@claude-plugins-official
卸完用 claude plugin list 确认列表里没有 postman@ 了,再开一个新会话,启动信息里不该再出现那段 "You have the Postman plugin."。
Codex
codex plugin remove postman@postman
codex plugin marketplace remove postman
Cursor
Cursor
mv ~/.cursor/plugins/local/postman ~/.Trash/postman-cursor-plugin
Postman CLI
mv ~/.local/bin/postman ~/.Trash/postman-cli
npx @postman/postman-plugin remove
grep "autoInstall.plugin" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Postman/logs/main.log" | tail -3
Q:Windows
Postman?
issue 和 HN 评论里提得最多的替代是 Bruno(开源,集合存成本地文件,可以进 Git),也有人推荐 Insomnia。

Introduction: The first of Hacker News's two days is the Postman desktop "Silent" plugin for the AI programming tool. I went through my own Mac and found that on October 29th, when Postman was upgraded, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor were all loaded with Postman plugins, plus a 178MB Postman CLI. This piece collates the five traces found on this machine, a self-reading script and the offloading of each tool. Applicable version: Postman desktop 12.34.4, Claude Code 2.1.299, Codex CLI 0.151.00, MacOS 15.
I. DEFINITIONS: WHAT HAPPENED?
In white: When you open or upgrade the Postman desktop, it looks at which AI programming tools are installed on the computer, and then loads your plugin without a bullet window.
There are three things in this plugin:
Whatever it is? There are no short-term errors, but there are two practical implications:
- AI's behavior has been changed: you have Claude Code to write an interface, fill in a test, and it's probably going to load Postman's skills and suggest that you use Postman to do the Mock, which is not what you're putting on, but it's affecting the outcome.
- "The tool chain has been changed by third parties" in the team: the company requires the AI tool plug-in and MCP to be approved.
When to move it: It's worth two minutes to check if you have a Postman desktop on your computer and use Claude Code/Code/Cursor. If you're done with the plugin, you can keep it.
II. THE PROCEEDINGS
- 2026-10-25, a user at the GitHub warehouse in Postman raised issue #14370, with a direct title SEVERE: Desktop version automatically plugged in to Codex, Claude and the installer tried to mark his boot hook as credible
11-03, on Hacker News, first page, post, 988 minutes, 328 comments as of 11-04.
11-03 evening, Postman employee reply in issue: bind CLI and AI plugins to desktop Together, because many users can't do it themselves; download pages and updates are described; then the older users' choices will be made more clearly and the hook trust and session start behavior referred to in the issue is checked
The evidence given by the issue author is Postman's own log, Codex's configuration file and installer source. I checked my machine against it, and the results were basically the same, and here's the details.
Three, one script first.
This script below is only read without change and runs directly on MacOS. It looks at 5 locations: Postman Log, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Postman CLI.
#!/bin/bash
# Read-only check: Does Postman have an AI programming tool (macOS) for this machine?
LOG="$HOME/Library/Application Support/Postman/logs/main.log"
echo "=1. Auto-installation log in Postman log"

else
echo, "No log."

Some field:
⚠️ Claude Code will call claude plugin list, just list, without changing configuration. Codex and Cursor only do grep and lls.
iv. What do you see?
4.1 Claude Code: 17 skills + 1 boot hook + 1 MCP
Claude pugin details can see the composition of a plugin and "how much token is fixed per session":
claude plugin details postman@claude-plugins-official
Key components of the output:
Postman (postman) 2.0.1
Source: postman@claude-plugins-official
Component inventory
Skills (17) ai-readiness, api-discovery, api-documentation, api-engineer, ...
Hooks (1) SessionStart (harness-only — no model context cost)
MCP servers (1) postman (tool schemas resolved at runtime; not counted)
Projected token cost
Always-on: ~1,897 tok added to every session
Three points deserve attention:
First, it was loaded from the official plugin market. The source is claude-plugins-official, an original Postman plugin in the Anthropic official plugin market, installed at 2026-10-29T01:28:54Z (Beijing time 09:28) and matched the Postman log. The plug itself is not a malicious code. The problem is, "Who ordered your installation."
Second, a hook is actually plugged into the conversation. Details says "no model contact post", but this hook's script will print out a description of 1214 byte, and Claude Code will add the output of the SsessionStart hook to the session context. When I opened Claude Code's session, I could see that in the start-up message.
You have the Postman plugin.
Before responding to any non-trivial API engineering task — designing, implementing,
mocking, testing, monitoring, documenting, or deploying an API or Postman Flow —
load the `postman:api-engineer` skill and follow it.
Translator is, "Do whatever you want before you do anything that's not simple. For a Java back end of a day-to-day interface, this coverage covers almost all routine tasks. So there's actually more than 1,897 token per session, plus that.
Thirdly, MCP needs your own authorization to connect. MCP configuration in plugin is:
{
"mcpServers": {
"postman": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.postman.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"X-Source": "postman-claude-code-plugin",
"X-Plugin-Version": "2.0.1",
"User-Agent": "postman-claude-code-plugin/2.0.1"
}
}
}
}
My Claude Code session showed this service as "needing authentication" and without authorization it would not really be connected. HN's title says, "Sharing all API data", and I don't find any evidence on this machine; what I can confirm is that once you're authorized in /mcp, AI will be able to read and write the workspace under your Postman account, and that there are sensitive interfaces in the team to keep this in mind.
4.2 Codex: Two paragraphs added to the profile
~.codex/config.toml has one additional plugin market and one enabled plugin:
[marketplaces.postman]
source_type = "git"
source = "https://github.com/postmanlabs/postman-plugin.git"
[plugins."postman@postman"]
enabled = true
Codex plugin list shows postman@postman installed, availabled 1.2.0, version and Claude Code 2.0.
There's another part of the author's story. "postman@postman:..." with trusted hash, meaning that Postman's boot hook has been marked as credible and Codex will execute it directly. I don't have this section on this machine, books.state is just hooks in my project. So here I am, Codex will ask me first when he meets Postman's hook. I've also searched the source code for the installers on this cache, which have not been found, and the other submission is quoted in the issue, and the versions of the installers may be different.
4.3 Cursor: One additional local plugin directory
ls ~/.cursor/plugins/local/postman/hooks
# Output: codex-hooks.json copilot-hooks.json hooks.json session-start-start-context.md session-start.cmd
The same plugin file copied a local plugin directory to Cursor with the same boot hook and MCP configuration.
4.4 Postman CLI: Second in one 178MB Production
~/.local/bin/postman --version
# Output: 1.82.0
In the log, autoInstall.cli. Existing-user recorded it at 09:30:19, 17 seconds earlier than the plugin. If you don't run Postman in the CI, this file won't work.
V. How to unload
⚠️ The following commands were confirmed with -- help, but I did not unload my machine and kept this article on the scene. It is recommended that ~/.codex/config.toml be backed up in one copy before unloading.
Claude Code
Just trying to make it ineffective, use it and get it back:
# Disable without deleting files
claude plugin disable postman@claude-plugins-official
Unload if you're sure you don't want it:
# Unmount; ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
claude plugin uninstall postman@claude-plugins-official
Unloading cardode pugin list no postman@ and opening a new session. "You have the Postman plugin."
Codex
# Remove plugins from configuration and cache
codex plugin remove postman@postman
# Delete Postman's plug market again, or we'll get it back from here
codex plugin marketplace remove postman
grep -n postman ~/.codex/config.toml, should not be exported.
Cursor
Cursor, this is a local directory, move to waste paper:
♪ Move to waste paper, don't go straight, rm, regret to get back
mv ~/.cursor/plugins/local/postman ~/.Trash/postman-cursor-plugin
Postman CLI
If you don't have to, move it too:
mv ~/.local/bin/postman ~/.Trash/postman-cli
An official order to unload.
Plugin README wrote a total switch, remove unloaded from all the tools detected:
# According to Plugin README, unknown; npx will download this package first from npm
npx @postman/postman-plugin remove
Postman also said in issue that these components could be unloaded in the desktop version. I didn't look for this portal in Postman's interface, and I looked at the settings myself.
Six, will you do it again?
I can't confirm that. Postman was on the machine 10-29, and then he started it.
It's safe to unload it and open Postman's script again, or just read the log:
# Just looking at recent auto-installed records, new installed means they're back
grep "autoInstall.plugin" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Postman/logs/main.log" | tail -3
If you put it back, you'll have to wait for Postman to deliver on his promise to make options clearer, or to replace Postman.
What about the team?
The team's gonna think, "What about the next tool?" My advice is three things:
- Putting the scripts of section 3 on the list of new arrivals or on regular inspections, looking at what "AI tools have been loaded", not just Postman. Just replace the grep key with a plugin you haven't approved.
- Take a regular look at claude pugin list and codex pugin list, short, 30 seconds. See what you don't know about the plugs.
- Focus on SesionStart and remote MCP. Skills are just documents, hooks can execute commands and change AI behavior, remote MCP can take data out, and these two kinds of plugins go through it.
Claude Code also supports the use of hosting configurations such as denied McpServers to disable the specified MCP service at the organizational level, based on official documents, which I did not configure on this machine.
Summary tables
IX. Common issues
Q: Does the plugin itself work? Should we keep it?
If your team is really gathering, running and monitoring through the Postman pipe interface, the plug-in will allow AI to handle these things directly. It will be possible to keep them, but it is recommended that they be available, if needed. Only a few requests for debugging are normally sent from Postman. This plugin is not useful and there is an extra prompt for each session.
Q: What about Windows?
I don't have Windows machine measurements. Along the same lines: looking for Postman 's log directory autoInstall.plugin, then looking at the plugin list with claude plugin list, codex plugin list, these two commands cross the platform.
Q: Should we just change Postman?
The most frequently mentioned replacements in the reviews of the issue and the HN were Bruno (open source, pooled cost site file, available in Git), and it was recommended that Insomnia. I don't actually measure the migration of these tools, but just name them. For the back end, the interface assembly is put in Git and evaluated with the code, which is of itself valuable.
Q: Does it hurt to use Postman web pages only, without desktops?
This installation is a script executed by the desktop on this machine, and the log is also in the desktop directory. On the web version only, run by the script in section III, item 1 will show "No log found" and the rest will normally be "no found".
