The base cost of AI memory is already so low that it is difficult to relate to the “day price”. The standard version of Alibaba CloudPolarDB Agent Memoory in the Mainland of China cost $0.015 per hour for the calculation and storage of resources per 10,000 memories. The amount remained constant at 10,000, with 30 days corresponding to $10.8, and the model called for additional charges.
More companies are competing for this business. ChatGPT in Open AI, Claude in Anthropic and Grok have provided personalized capacity for cross-dialogue; database manufacturers and independent service providers want to make their memories available for more applications. Mem0 announced a total of $24 million in seed wheel and A in October 2025, while the number of API calls disclosed during the same period increased from 35 million in the first quarter of the year to 186 million in the third quarter.
What they are seeking is what users and businesses have built up: repeated requests, handled anomalies, rejected programmes and done half the work. It would be cheap to keep a few sentences, allowing these accumulations to continue to play a role in the next mission, which would affect the user ' s willingness to give the job to whom and to switch to another service.
The value of memory is ultimately realized through continuous work.
Chat records are not work experience.
AI applications can save many conversations and long context models can read a lot of text at a time. But there are both final decisions and abandoned options throughout history; there are long-term preferences and one-off requirements. At the beginning of the next mission, the model will continue to determine which elements are relevant and which version is valid. The material was saved and only one step was completed.
Alibaba CloudAgentRun manages long-term memory, a session history session, separately. long-term memory saves the preferences and information of the cross-session, saves the full message of the session history, saves the variables and progress of the current task for the session status. When the user says “Please continue”, the system needs to know both what he always requests and where he does it this time, and the last completion status cannot be applied to this time.
This difference is particularly evident when projects change. A programme had been rejected after discussion, and there were still many reasons for supporting it in history. The old scheme could be found more easily than a short decision to cancel, only by reference to text similarities. Even if the system accurately recovers the words, it may go on doing something that is no longer appropriate. The memory must retain the order and scope of application of the decisions before it can become an experience.
The LongMemEval benchmark designed 500 questions to look at the extraction of information, cross-session reasoning, time relations, knowledge updates and restraint when not answered. Its small version, with a single test history of approximately 40 sessions and 115,000 Tokens. Finding a name is a different requirement from identifying the person who later changed duties. Continued use of AI requires facing the latter change.
We don't have to lose the material.
The first thing that happens is input and waiting costs. In the LoCoMo experiment of 2025 for the Mem0 team, approximately 26031 Token was used for each query for the complete context programme, and 1764 Token for the Mem0 memory programme; the 95th percentile of the total response time was 17,117 seconds and 1.440 seconds, i.e. approximately 95 per cent of the requests were completed within the corresponding time.
However, the total context model decision was rated at 72.90 per cent and Mem0 66.88 per cent. This set of results presents a clear trade-off: retrieving memory significantly reduces input and waiting, and complete history still scored higher in the experiment. There is a return to less reading materials and a risk of missing conditions.
How to balance efficiency with detail is a much more valuable part of it. In the LongMemeval test of 2026 by the Redis research team at publish, only memory extraction was used, with an average accuracy of 71.2 per cent for the six categories of tasks, while the original clips and extracting facts were retrieved to 86.1 per cent. The test consisted of 500 questions, which were rated using a model referee, with a difference of 14.9 percentage points between the two configurations.
The extracting fact is appropriate to consolidate the cross-session information and to organize the changes, and the original part is kept with names, dates and specific wording that can easily be saved by summary. An exception might not have been forthcoming at that time, but the next one would have coincided with the implementation of the mandate. The retention of the original content would be tantamount to leaving an opportunity for subsequent judgement to be reviewed. The two studies, using different tests and configurations, answered the cost of less read materials, how to reduce the loss of information and could not be put into different product rankings.
The final calculation for the enterprise includes maintenance and return to work. The same requirement has been repeatedly called upon by the follow-up mission to provide an opportunity for prior processing to be repeated; the more frequently documents are modified, the more input will be drawn, indexed and updated. cache was able to reduce the duplicate input price and the search itself was calculated, and the bill would not have left a single storage fee.
Greater losses may occur after the creation of the answer. A delivery condition was missing, which was followed by additional questions, redactions and manual corrections, and the saved Token was eaten back at work. What is really of interest to the purchaser is the amount of time and cost spent on a job from handing over to AI to completion. The memory service will only be commercially meaningful if the general ledger is better performed and the unit cost of storage is low.
All three AIs are building up an understanding of users.
These technology options have entered the everyday product. The ChatGPT of Open AI can use historical conversations, saved memories and customised commands, and the contents of saved files and connected applications can be used in supported packages, areas and settings. It provides a memory of summary, which can be followed by a demonstration of the source of participation in individualization, and the user is able to look back or correct, but neither summary nor the source are complete lists.
As a result, information about users no longer comes from chat windows alone. Changes to the items in the mail and working papers kept may help AI to continue its mandate. The source is becoming more numerous and the correction is more complex: after a summary sentence has been modified, the old information may still remain in a mail or document. Users need to find out where the error originated, and service providers need to address the relationships between different sources.
Claude of Anthropic provides access to both thematic memory and historical dialogue. The current version can be used to save memories during chats, or to search for old conversations, which are shown as tool call. Chat and cloud-based Cowork can share their memories, and locally operated Cowork is not available for the time being; the interconnectivity of project and account memory depends on the corresponding settings.
This arrangement links the “remember requirements” to the “back-to-back” and provides an opportunity for accumulation to follow workflow. Users have moved from discussions to missions, and the previously communicated text and project background can continue to be used. It is in line with the direction of the previous studies, but the product has these access points, which do not mean that information can be correctly extracted and called on each time, and the actual results will still have to be tested in successive missions.
The Grok network also lists cross-chamber memories to remember preferences and past conversations. There is also a personalization mechanism at the X end: with the corresponding authorization, information such as information, postings, interactions and interests can be used for personalization and the provision of independent controls. This is different from the ability to search web pages in real time and to publish posts. The search complements what is happening externally, and personal memory helps the system understand the user ' s previous requirements and decisions.
The three sources of information differ from the way they are controlled, with the common goal of reducing the duplication of effort by users. The way in which context is preserved and used in the product is discussed here, not the way in which each individual information is permanently written into the weights. The continuity experienced by users is derived from work done jointly with the model and peripheral systems.
This has also put additional competitive pressure on independent memory services. If the demand is simply to remember the profession, the style and the tools commonly used, the built-in functions of the platform may already be sufficient. The rationale for continued third-party charges requires more complex work: whether multiple models can be used in the same experience, whether different members can be called on permission, and whether business changes can be corrected in a timely manner. A reliable recovery of work is more difficult to replace when conservation becomes the foundation.
What businesses need is experience that can be corrected.
Database manufacturers have their place here. Enterprises need information that AI remembers, which is often linked to actual operations, and updates occur in the business system.
Oracle’s Agent Memoory product description shows a logistics scenario: The plant requires specific materials on a weekly basis and the transporter requires corresponding qualifications and delivery is to be completed by the specified time. These requests are to be kept in multiple schedules and updated with operations. With one sentence in mind, the system must know which plant it should be responsible for, which shipment and when it will be effective.
If the memory service maintains a separate requirement, this memory will change as the business system changes. Otherwise, AI may be very skilled in arranging a process that has expired. Oracle lists updates, expirys and cascades as product capabilities; Tencent CloudAgent Memoory distinguishes between individuals, AI agent and team memory, and team sharing requires clear delegation of authority, implicitly private.
An experience can be repeated and therefore cannot be viewed solely as correct. Special requirements of a client may be used for other customers if they are lost; a temporary exception may be maintained in the case of a generic team rule, followed by AI agent. Memory makes the right practice easy to continue and gives the wrongs longer time to spread.
This makes permission, version and source part of the service. Users find it problematic to determine whether the original information is wrong, whether the extraction is missing, whether the search is wrong, or whether the model understands deviations. Different parts of the chain require different legal amendments. A larger model does not guarantee that the question of preservation and retrieval goes away together.
The memory services that can manage these relationships can become infrastructure for long-term use by enterprises. Clients pay more than only a few messages, including the timely withdrawal of the updated old rules, the tracing of errors, and the withdrawal of authorizations without further dissemination. The deeper the work is, the more difficult it is to measure the value of these managerial capabilities in terms of unit storage prices.
How much do users take with them?
Long-term accumulation may affect competition between platforms, but it may not necessarily remain in place.
Claude has already provided memory import and export. Users can paste other AI compiled memory texts, extracted and preserved as entries by Claude; their own Claude memories can also be exported. Import is still an experimental function that does not necessarily absorb all content in its entirety, but some preferences and experiences already have paths to migrate with users.
This has changed the way service providers retain users. A cultural preference can be replicated and the introduction of several commonly used items can be re-inputed; it is difficult to establish strong long-term relationships by preserving these entries alone. What is really difficult to move is probably the set of arrangements that support the entry into force of the experience.
The text can indicate that a client has special requirements without automatic attachment to the original mail, subsequent withdrawal of the request, team authorization and ongoing mission status. Once moved to another system, which records should be retrieved, which version should prevail and who can see what needs to be re-established. Export does not mean that the same job can continue as it was.
This is also the space that independent service providers can seek. While the Platform wishes to retain users with continuous experience, cross-model memory services need to demonstrate that the accumulation can still be used reliably after replacing models or applications. On this basis, enterprises can retain their experience in systems under their control and select suitable models to perform their tasks. The competitive focus has shifted from the preservation of information to how this accumulation is organized and delivered.
The high value of AI memory ultimately falls on these concrete outcomes: one correction reduces subsequent return work, one effective treatment can help the same kind of task, and an outdated requirement can be withdrawn from decision-making in a timely manner. Their preservation may require only low base costs, making them reliable, renewable and transferable, and long-term services. What users are willing to pay on a continuous basis is the work efficiencies that have been cumulatively changed.
